Liaqat Ali Chattha is a Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division. Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta resigned on Saturday, admitting his role in tampering with the results of the February 8 polls. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected Chatta’s allegations of electoral manipulation.
The ECP, in a statement issued on Saturday, said the commissioner was not directly involved in the conduct of the election and no executive of the commission had instructed the commissioner to tamper with the results. Also, the ECP announced that he would review the situation as soon as possible.

Chatta, originally from Hafizabad, Punjab, began his civil service career in 1992 as an executive magistrate. During his tenure he held various positions in Faisalabad, notably as Executive District Officer Finance from 1992 to 2012.
After that, he served as Deputy Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat during the tenure of former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He played the role of PSO to Hamza Shehbaz during his tenure in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. He later held the post of Deputy Commissioner in Gujarat. According to reports, a Gujarat business tycoon influenced Chatha’s appointment as Deputy Commissioner of Gujarat. In March 2017, he was appointed Deputy Commissioner Sargodha.
Chatta was appointed as the Secretary of Housing, Urban Development and Public Health in the Government of Punjab in September 2022.
Later, he served as Secretary of the Department of Labor and Human Resources from September 2021 to December 2021 and again from May 2022 to August 2022 before taking over as Commissioner in Dera Ghazi Khan in August 2022.
He was also a member of the Punjab Revenue Authority.
During his career, Chatta provided facilities at gymnasiums and general bus stands in Gujarat, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rawalpindi.
Additionally, while serving in Rawalpindi, he restarted various projects including Ring Road, Daducha Dam, Chahan Dam, Peer Vidhai Bus Stand, and Safe City.
According to Dawn, senior Punjab government officials described Chatha as a “hard-working officer”. According to reports, Chatta had good relations with political leaders of various political parties.
